What can a Frog sit on? What about a Gopher? Find out from the cat in the whimsical storybook, "Frog on a Log?" by Kes Gray & Jim Field. Eastern Monroe Public Library and Stroud Recreation want you to be able to enjoy the outdoors AND a great children's book at the same time! Our Storywalk® is a fifteen-minute walk along Zacharias Pond Park's woodland trail, where a storybook is posted page-by-page to enjoy.

The trail starts north of the parking lot, past the pavilion.

April 20, 2023; Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center; Monroe County Conservation District

Walk through forest meadow and an otherworldly shale barren! About 1.5 miles. Rocks and roots across wooded path and several hills. Estimated time: 1 hour. Meet at parking lot of the environmental education center. Dogs are not allowed at this location.

May 18, 2024; Brodhead Creek Park Dog Pack Walk; Stroud Township

Walk your dog along this wooded creekside trail with a pack of pups. About 1.8 miles. Trail is gravel with one moderately taxing hill and a short roadside section. Estimated time: 1 hour.
To maintain safety and respect during the walk, d
ogs are NOT permitted to socialize throughout, and must be kept on a non-extendable leash. Dogs must be under control, and have a friendly disposition toward dogs and humans to participate. This pack walk is a good opportunity to enrich your dog and for you to meet other dog lovers. You are welcome to make friends and plan puppy play dates on your own time, but socializing dogs is not the goal of this walk as it will be too big a group and therefore there are too many variables, even for a perfectly trained pup.

After the walk at 11am, you are welcome to stay to attend a free Dog Training Q&A Session with University of Pets trainer, David Henon.

June 15, 2024; Kurmes Preserve; Pocono Heritage Land Trust

A refreshing, though slightly challenging, hiking loop of 2 miles. Rhododendrons and Mountain Laurels hug the trail, and some will likely be blooming. A creek meets the trail at certain points. Meets at 335 Devils Hole Road, Cresco, PA.

July 20, 2024; Cherry Creek Crossing Loop; Smithfield Township
A fun-loving waterside loop to and from Minisink Park. About 2.5 miles of mostly flat, gravel trail except slight hill to and from creek. Stone creek crossing is delightful though it does require some dexterity. Estimated time: 1.5 hours. Meet off Oak Street in Delaware Water Gap (NOT at Minisink Park.)

August 17, 2024; Rail Gap Preserve; Pocono Heritage Land Trust

Rushing water and Hemlock forest: a short but remarkable creekside hike of about 0.5 miles. Rocks and roots sporadically in path. Some slight hills. Estimated time: 30 minutes. Rail Gap Preserve is at 3555 Schafer Schoolhouse Road.

Sept 14, 2023; Glen Park; Stroudsburg Borough ONE WEEK EARLY

An adventurous rhododendron-lined out-and-back trail along the lower Brodhead Creek. About 1.5 miles. Wooded trail with roots, rocks, some mud, and varying inclines, but no large hills. Estimated time 1 hour. Meets at: 152 Collins Street, Stroudsburg.

Oct 19, 2024; Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge; U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service START TIME 9 AM

An invigorating stroll over the creek and rolling meadowed hills of the sunny Cherry Valley. About 2 miles. Paved trail; several cardio-inducing hills. Estimated time 1 hour. There are two Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuges in the area. We will meet at the one that was once a golf course: 2138 Crossdale Rd, Stroudsburg, PA. Please make sure that you are heading to the right address before you start your drive. Please note that dogs are not allowed at this location.

You are welcome to stay after the walk for the Friends of Cherry Valley Fall Festival at 10am-2pm!

November 16, 2024; Hidden Lake; Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Hike around this pristine lake on a crisp, fall day. 2 mile loop. Wooded trail with uneven rocks, roots, mud and some slight hills. Estimated time 1.5 hours. Meets at main parking lot, where there are picnic tables and bathrooms.

December 21, 2024; Lower Hornbeck Trail

A winter solstice walk to a waterfall! Join us on a pristine journey over idyllic footbridges to the waterfall and then back again. About 2 miles. Path is mostly flat gravel with some rocky sections, bridges have steps up and require a bit of dexterity. Estimated time 1.5 hours. Meets at Lower Hornbeck's Creek Trailhead. If lot is full, there is overflow parking across 209. Give yourself plenty of time to arrive, as this is our farthest destination from town this year, and overflow parking is a short but noticeable walk to the trailhead.
