How low can you go? Hang ten on our Winter W-W-Wipeout—a lively tropical luau in the midst of frigid mid-winter blues and dreary mid-term exams. Wear your Hawaiian best, bring your shades and best buds, and join the party for themed beverages, music, Wii games, and other frolicking summer fun to encourage warm thoughts and good times! 

Young Entrepreneurs
Date: Thursdays, February 4 - 25

Do you have what it takes to be run a business? This program covers how to identify a problem, develop an innovative solution, sell your idea, and other related topics. Problem-solving games, puzzlers, group activities, and real life success stories inspire original thinking. At the end of the session, each entrepreneur will use what he or she learned to assess a need, develop a new program, and present his or her program to the group. The best program idea will be featured in the next issue of Stroud Region Connections. Each participant also receive a Certificate of Completion. 

BSA Venturing Organizational Meeting

Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women ages 14-20 that have completed grade 8. Based on unique and dynamic relationships between youth, adult leaders, organizations, and communities, Venturing’s purpose is to help young people mature, pursue their special interests, develop leadership skills, and become responsible citizens through special volunteer projects and meaningful and exciting group activities. Our Venturing Crew will decide exactly what kinds of opportunities they’d like to pursue based on interests, skills, and hobbies of the individual members. Other Venturing crews around the country have sailed the Caribbean, climbed mountains, produced plays, taught disabled people to swim, and attended the Olympics!

Beginner Crochet

Instructor Michelle Bellis teaches the basics of crocheting including chain, single crochet, double crochet and half-double crochet by creating three wonderful dishcloths! Beginner Knitting

Knitting basics taught by Jill Greenwood will result in the completion of your first scarf. Learn how to cast on, bind off, stockinette stitch and rib stitch. Space is limited; register early. Figure It Out!
Date: Mondays, April 5-26

This program involves participants in fun, real-life problem-solving challenges that require mathematic and/or logical skills to work out. Excellent for both math whizzes and those who struggle with math concepts, Figure It Out! builds on existing math skills, introduces new concepts, and applies mathematic principles to everyday situations. Taught by a local certified high school math teacher, this program increases mathematic understanding and has participants saying, “I love math!”
 

Budget Basics

Learn how to make, spend, save, and invest money with East Stroudsburg University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) members! The first class concentrates on building personal money management skills, followed up by lessons on balancing a checkbook and how to track spending habits. The second class teaches participants how to save money and reach personal financial goals as well as investing. Seminar includes dinner both nights and $25 of seed money to get your savings started! Space is limited.

Ralley Ball is tennis as an organized team sport with modified serving and scoring to make it easy and fun. A six-person team participates in a one-hour lesson and a half-hour match. Each participant receives a uniform T-shirt and enjoys an end-of-season celebration.
 

USTA Team Tennis

Designed for players that have mastered the basics of tennis, including serving, score keeping, and rallying; each United States Tennis Association class includes a 45-minute skill lesson and a 45-minute modified match. Players are placed on teams of four and compete in doubles match play.

Learn the basics of regular scoring tennis with a one-hour lesson and one-half˝ hour modified match each class. Teen Beginner Tennis is designed for participants who have finished Ralley Ball and wish to sharpen skills prior to joining USTA Team Tennis.

Develop self-discipline, self-confidence, and leadership skills while learning to defend yourself and having a great time. Certified Instructors from Paskiet Martial Arts Academy teach age-appropriate Isshin Ryu karate for children and adults. 

Pickleball
Dates: Wednesdays, May 26-June 30

Pickle what? Pickleball is a paddle sport played on a hard surface the size of a badminton court. First created in 1965, it is making a comeback, so don’t miss out. Instruction is offered along with game play. Teams are comprised of 2 to 4 players; individuals are placed in teams upon arrival.
 

Precision Music Lessons
Musical instruction inspires creativity, promotes self-discipline, and is valuable to both the mind and soul at any age. Individual and group lessons are available for guitar and piano (group lessons: keyboard). Instrument rentals are also available; please call Precision Music for details: 570-420-1560

Piano is the easiest to learn to play and offers the best way to learn to read and understand music. Guitar is by far the most popular instrument, with good reason: it is easy, portable, versatile, and makes great music. 

Individual Lessons

Summer private lessons offer the benefit of a direct one-on-one experience with the instructor resulting in maximum skill development. Weekly half-hour sessions available; due to the varying availability of the instructors, scheduling must be done at Precision Music; final registration and payment is through SROSRC.
 

Group Lessons
Small group instruction (for beginners only) offers a great way to learn in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Participants learn the basics of music and gain a solid understanding of the instrument.

This course provides youth ages 11-15 with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. This training helps participants develop leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe while on the job, help children behave, and learn about basic child care, as well as basic first aid.
 

Teen Kickball League
Dates: Tuesdays, June 29-August 17
Register by June 18 (dates may vary depending on total teams enrolled)

Ages: 15-19
Fee: $40/team
Locations: Dansbury Park & Zacharias Pond Park Fields
Kickball isn’t just for kids anymore! Play other co-ed teams to see which team can dominate the league. Weekly games will be held at Dansbury Park and Zacharias Pond playing fields. T-shirts are awarded to best team upon completion of the season.
