Community Incentive Lifeguarding Certification Course        

  Note: Requires an application for employment with course registration

Dates and Times: 
Swim Testing: Wednesday, May 11th 5:00-5:30 pm
 *Participants must pass this test in order to proceed with the certification course - contact our office for times when lifeguard candidates can prepare/warm up prior to the swim test

Class dates:  (Must attend all)

  • Wednesday and Thursday, May 18th and 19th  5:00-9:00 pm
  • Saturday, May 21st 9:00-5:00 pm

Fee: $125* payable to SROSRC plus and an additional $35 payable to the American Red Cross *MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A COMPLETED APPLICATION TO WORK FOR THE STROUDSBURG OR YMCA POOLS!
Location: Chipperfield Elementary School
Description:  Become an American Red Cross Lifeguard. This is a blended class with online, classroom and pool components. All participants must be able to swim 300 yards, tread water and retrieve a brick at the bottom of the pool. Refunds will be given to the participants who do not pass the prerequisite (registration fee minus administrative fee of $15 will be refunded). 

Pass the course, complete an employment application for either the YMCA or the SROSRC, give a successful interview and you have a summer job!! At the end of a successful summer of employment with one of our pools, you can receive reimbursement for the course cost.
Ages: 16+

Registration: Print out the employee application online, complete it and turn it in to the Day Street Community Center with the required fee.

Lifeguarding Certification Course        

For lifeguard candidates who do not plan to work for Stroudsburg or the YMCA pool at this time.

Lap Swim/Water Walking         

Dates & Times: Wednesdays, 2/17-3/30 - 6:30-8:00 p.m. (excludes 3/16) & 4/6-5/11 - 7:45-8:45 pm
Fee: $5 to be paid in cash at the pool
Location: Chipperfield Elementary School pool
Description: Experience the healthy benefits of water exercise!  Activity in the water, whether swimming laps, water walking, or completing strengthening activities, has wonderful cardiovascular and musculoskeletal benefits!  Natural buoyancy lessens the impact on joints. 

 

Family Swim Fridays       

Dates and Times: Fridays, 2/19 - 5/6 (excludes 3/18 & 3/25) 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Fee: $5 per person or $15 per family (2 Adults & 2 Children) must be paid in cash at the pool.
Location: Chipperfield Elementary School pool
Description: Family Swim Fridays is time for the entire family to swim and enjoy the pool during the colder months. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Swim diapers are required for those not potty trained and lifejackets are available if needed.  Groups of 10 or more, please call 48 hours in advanced at 570-426-1512 to ensure adequate staffing.            

 

Boy Scout Swimming Merit Badge Night (FULL)

Date & Times: Friday, May 13 - 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Fee: $5 per person *Pre-registration required*
Location: Chipperfield Elementary School pool
Description: Boy Scouts have the opportunity to earn their Swimming Merit Badge. Participants will learn about safe swimming and do different swimming exercises. Karen Stylianides is the swimming merit badge counselor for this program.

Descriptions: SROSRC utilizes the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program, which is taught by American Red Cross certified water safety instructors. Instructors teach basic water comfort and safety through advanced stroke development in addition to water safety tips. It is comprehensive, developmentally appropriate swimming and water safety program that teaches the student how to swim safetly and skillfully. The prerequisite for each level is successful demonstration of skills from the preceding level, except for Level 1, which has no prerequisites. It is a 6-week couse designed to give participants a positive learning experience. 

Parent & Child - Introduces basic water skills for both parent and child, ages 6 months to 3 years old. 
Pre-school - Teaches developmentally appropriate aquatic skills such as water safety, fundamental skills, and basic swimming for children ages 3 and 5 years old.
Level 1 - Introduction to water skills to help participants ages 6-15 to feel comfortable in the water.
Level 2 - Fundamental aquatic skills, participants will learn fundamental skills for ages 6- 15.
Level 3 - Stroke development, builds on the skills from Level 2 with additional guided practice in deeper waters.
Level 4 - Stroke improvement, develops the confidence in the skills learned to improve on additional aquatic skills.
Level 5 - Stroke refinement, provides further instruction, coordination, and refinements of strokes.
Level 6 - Swimming and skill proficiency, refines the stroke so partipants can swim with ease, efficiency, and power over greater distances.
