Spring Aquatics Springtime aquatic programs are held at the Stroudsburg Intermediate/Elementary School Pool, 2000 Chipperfield Drive, Stroudsburg.
Swim Lessons Swim Test: Wednesday, March 24; required for Levels 2 & 3 Session 1: Mondays March 29 – May 10 (no class on April 5) or Session 2: Wednesday March 31 – May 5 Times: 5:30-6:00 pm; Preschool 6:00-6:50 pm; Levels 1 & 2 7:00-7:50 pm; Levels 1 & 3 Fee: $50 The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program is taught by certified Water Safety Instructors and teaches basic water comfort and safety through advanced stroke development in addition to water safety tips.
Preschool Swim Lessons (ages 2-4) This parent and child class teaches water comfort and introduces the basics of swimming, entry/exit, immersion, floating, arms and leg coordination, and beginning stroke mechanics. Special songs and toys helps participant have a great time!
Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills (ages 5 and older) For new and beginner swimmers, this class teaches the basics of swimming including entry/exit, immersion, floating, basic stroke mechanics, and safety lessons.
Level 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills (ages 5 and older) This class builds on the basic principles taught in Level 1 including more advanced stroke mechanics for front and back crawl. A Level 1 completion card or swim testing required.
Level 3 Stroke Development (ages 5 and older) Held in the deep end of the pool, this class introduces new strokes of elementary back stroke and breaststroke, as well as techniques of diving, and further hones skills and strokes learned in Level 2. A Level 2 completion card or swim testing required.
Family Swim Fridays Dates: Fridays, March 26-May 14 Time: 7:00-9:00 pm Fee: $10/family (2 adults and up to 4 children); or $2/individual Family Swim Fridays are time for the entire family to swim and splash while enjoying the pool during the colder months. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please use Coast Guard approved lifejackets ONLY and swim diapers if needed. Groups of 10 or more, please call 426-1512 to ensure adequate staffing.
Lifeguard Training
Swim Test: Wednesday, March
24, 7:30 pm The American Red Cross Lifeguarding program provides participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical personnel arrive and take over. Upon successful completion of the course, participants are certified in Lifeguard Training and First Aid (3 year certification) and CPR for the Professional Rescuer (1 year certification).
Prerequisites: 1. All participants must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of the course (copy of birth certificate required at the time of registration). 2. All participants must successfully complete the following prerequisite swim test: a. Swim 300 yards (12 laps) continuously using these strokes in the following order (there is no time requirement for this skill, participants may use goggles): i. 100 yards of FRONT CRAWL using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick. ii. 100 yards of BREASTSTROKE using a pull, breathe, kick, and glide sequence. iii. 100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke; or a combination of front crawl and breaststroke. b. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to 7-10 feet; retrieve a 10 lb. object; return to the surface; swim 20 yards on back to start point holding object in both hands and keeping face out of the water; and exit water without using a ladder or steps. This is a timed skill, participants have 1 minute, 40 seconds to complete and may not use goggles.
Participants must attend all classes—no exceptions! Please come prepared to swim each class, bring plenty of water, and a bag lunch.
Summer Aquatics
Swim Lessons Stroudsburg Borough Pool Stroudsburg Borough Pool is pleased to offer American Red Cross swimming lessons. Swimmers must show proof of level from previous swim lessons or attend swim testing to be placed in proper swim level. Private lessons are available upon request, please see pool manager. Swim Testing Dates: Saturday & Sunday, June 12 & 13, 10:00-11:00 am Dates: Session 1 Monday-Friday, June 21- July 9 Session 2 Monday-Friday, July 12-July 30 Session 3 Monday-Friday, August 2-August 20 Times: 9:00 am, 9:30 am, 10:00 am (each class is 30 minutes) Fees: $40/resident, $55/non-resident for first child $40/resident, $55/non-resident for the second child $20/resident, $35/non-resident for three or more children
Dansbury Park Pool Swimming lessons at Dansbury Pool are held mornings between 10 am and noon. Certified instructors conduct classes for all age groups and levels. Class size is limited to ensure the best teaching conditions and participant safety. A preliminary test to determine swim groups is held prior to the start of classes. For further information on swim lessons at the Dansbury Pool, call 421-6591. All dates are subject to change. Summer Safety Day at Stroudsburg Pool Date: Saturday, June 12 Time: 12:00-4:00 pm Fee: Free with regular admission to the pool. Location: Stroudsburg Borough Pool Get a head start on summer and join the Stroudsburg Pool staff for tips and tricks to keep your family safe and healthy this season. Lifeguard and swimming demonstrations run throughout the day, with information on proper hydration, skin care, and pool safety to provide your family with everything they need to know to stay healthy.
Lap Swimming & Water Walking Dates: Monday-Friday, starting June 28 Times: 10:30-11:00 am & 6:30-7:00 pm Pool: Stroudsburg Borough Fee: $3/session Ages: 18 and older Experience the healthy benefits of water exercise! Activity in the water, whether swimming laps, water walking, or completing strengthening activities, has wonderful cardiovascular and musculoskeletal benefits while natural buoyancy lessens the impact on joints. Some equipment is available to aid exercise.
Dive-In Movies Dates: Friday, July 30 title to be announced soon! Friday, Aug. 13 title to be announced soon! Time: 8:00 pm; movie starts at 9:00 pm Fee: Movie is free with regular pool admission. Dive in for a summer evening blockbuster party at your local pool! Bring your pool floats and blankets for our family friendly movies. Snacks are available for purchase. Registration is required one week prior to the event. Movies are subject to change.
