Friends of Stroud Region help to provide recreational opportunities and preserve and protect open space in the Stroud Region.

friendsFriends of Stroud Region is proud to introduce its new logo! By special permission of Liztech Jewelry, designer of the Friends' popular custom fundraising pin, graphic artists from Hospitality Alliances have adapted the motif to serve as a distinctive emblem of the Friends' commitment to the Brodhead, McMichael and Pocono Creeks Greenway. We thank these partners for their generous and creative contributions to furthering the ideals and goals of the Friends of Stroud Region Open Space and Recreation!

Friends of Stroud Region Open Space and Recreation is a 501(c)(3) organization working to help preserve and protect open space within the Brodhead, McMichael, and Pocono Creeks Greenway system, and supporting recreational, educational, environmental, and cultural opportunities for all who live and work in the region.

Encompassing nearly 38 square miles of exceptional natural beauty and resources of eastern Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains, the Stroud Region surrounds the confluence of the pristine Brodhead, McMichael, and Pocono Creeks and its associated Greenway system. The Greenway's corridor of open space not only protects the watershed and shelters its wildlife, but forms the backbone of the Region's recreational assets. More than two dozen regional parks offer year-round opportunities for active and passive leisure pursuits, with a series of trail systems connecting urban, suburban, rural, and wild places.

Friends of Stroud Region Open Space and Recreation help to enhance the greenway system by supporting the acquisition of key parcels of remaining open space, developing greenway projects and community recreation programming, as outlined in the Brodhead, McMichael, and Pocono Creeks Greenway Master Plan.

Founded in 2005, the Friends organization is currently engaged in strategic planning to develop its organizational strength in terms of its administrative board, annual membership, networking, and community marketing, and fundraising.

Arrive early for the Grand Opening and Dedication ceremony of the new Dansbury Trailhead. Funded by a $100,000 grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and matched with cash and in-kind services by East Stroudsburg Borough and Stroud Township, the construction of the Trailhead expanded the width of the levee in the northwest corner of Dansbury Park for a scenic overlook of the Brodhead Creek. A stairway, ADA-compliant ramps, informational kiosk, benches, bike racks, water fountain, and a small parking area complete the amenities. The Grand Opening ceremony at 11 am also includes the dedication of trees planted in honor of those individuals and organizations who helped transform the former East Stroudsburg Police Station into the Day Street Community Center.
