The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program is taught by certified Water Safety Instructors and teaches basic water comfort and safety through advanced stroke development in addition to water safety tips.
Preschool Swim Lessons (ages 2-4) This parent and child class teaches water comfort and introduces the basics of swimming, entry/exit, immersion, floating, arms and leg coordination, and beginning stroke mechanics. Special songs and toys helps participant have a great time!
Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills (ages 5 and older) For new and beginner swimmers, this class teaches the basics of swimming including entry/exit, immersion, floating, basic stroke mechanics, and safety lessons.
Level 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills (ages 5 and older) This class builds on the basic principles taught in Level 1 and includes more advanced stroke mechanics for front and back crawl. A Level 1 completion card or swim testing is required.
Level 3 Stroke Development (ages 5 and older) Held in the deep end of the pool, this class introduces new strokes of elementary back stroke and breaststroke, as well as techniques of diving, and further hones skills and strokes learned in Level 2. A Level 2 completion card or swim testing is required.
This program trains participants for swimming in a competitive environment. On-land and in-water training includes endurance and strength exercises as well as focus on the four competitive strokes: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly; and also starts and turns. Participants must be American Cross Level proficient or above. This is great off-season training for swim team members or preparatory training for those aspiring to join competitive teams! Positive, American Red Cross certified instructors make this clinic challenging and fun for all!

Family Swim Fridays are time for the entire family to swim and splash while enjoying the pool during the colder months. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please use Coast Guard approved lifejackets ONLY and swim diapers if needed. Groups of 10 or more, please call 426-1512 to ensure adequate staffing.

Experience the healthy benefits of water exercise! Activity in the water, whether swimming laps, water walking, or completing strengthening activities, has wonderful cardiovascular and musculoskeletal benefits! Natural buoyancy lessens the impact on joints. Some equipment is available to aid exercise. Calendars are available at the pool.

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding program provides participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical personnel arrive and take over. Upon successful completion of the course, participant are certified in Lifeguard Training and First Aid (3 year certification) and CPR for the Professional Rescuer (1 year certification).
Prerequisites
1. Must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled class of the course (copy of birth certificate is required at time of registration).
2. Must successfully complete the following prerequisite swim test:
a. Swim 300 yards (12 laps) continuously using these strokes in the following order (there is not time requirement for this skill, participants may use goggles):
* 100 yards of Front Crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick.
* 100 yards of Breaststroke using a pull, breate, kick, and glide sequence.
* 100 yards of either the front crawl or breaststroke; or combination of front crawl and breaststroke.
3. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to 7-10 feet; retrieve a 10 lb object; return to surface; swim 20 yards on back to start point holding object in both hands and keeping face out of water; and exit water without using a ladder or steps. This is a timed skill, participants have 1 minute, 40 seconds to complete and may not use goggles.
Participants must attend all classes - no exceptions! Please come prepared to swim each class, bring plenty of water, and a bag lunch.

This is a class for those who possess a current (or no more than 12 months expired) American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid certificate and who need to re-certifiy. Upon successful completion of the written exam and skills test, participants will be re-certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid (3 year certification). All participants must bring a 2007 American Red Cross Lifeguarding textbook and proof of certification to class.
Register by May 14.
